On March 29, 1966, Charles Whitman went to see Dr. M.D. Heatly, a mental health counselor on the UT-Austin campus. Heatly documented that Whitman was “thinking about going up on the tower with a deer rifle and start shooting people.” This copy of Heatly’s report, along with Whitman’s filled-out patient information form, were found in the UT Traffic and Security Services Chief Allen R. Hamilton Tower Sniper Records in the Briscoe Center for American History.
