“Gene Hall and I were on a three-month lowball senior trip to England and continental Europe. On August 1, 1966 we were in Rome, Italy. I guess it was August 2nd, we were on a self-guided tour of central Rome, and I distinctly recall we were near the Trevi Fountain when we passed a news stand.
On the front page of an Italian daily newspaper was a picture of the Texas tower, and headline in Italian.
We went to the American Express office, which had English-language newspapers, to read the story. Quite a jolt at the time.
After we returned, I heard from several friends who were on the Drag during the shooting.”
