The son of Dr. Frederick Eckman, one of my favorite UT English professors, was killed by Whitman, and Fred never really got over the loss.
Right after his son’s death, Fred went to Bowling Green State University where he finished his academic career. I corresponded with him and saw him in Michigan in 1973 or so.”
