Ann McKinney and her then-husband Don were friends with Charles Whitman and Whitman’s wife Kathy.
McKinney and Don were pictured on the roll of film Whitman left at his home with directions that it be developed – so police reached out to her after shooting.
McKinney did not see this event coming. Only later did her husband recall how Whitman tried selling some of his books to him in the days leading up to the shooting.
“I said, ‘That doesn’t sound good, it sounds like Charlie’s dropping out of school,’ and Don said he wouldn’t talk to him. ‘He didn’t talk to me about it.’”
She calls the day of the shooting a defining moment in her life.
