Phyllis Francis Waddle was working for her father in his dental office the summer of 1966. On August 1 of that year she remembers hearing the announcement of the shooting on the radio in the dental office’s reception room.

Waddle ran out into the street to look at the Tower and remembers seeing smoke at the top of it. Later, on the radio, she heard her high school friend Paul Sonntag had been killed in the shooting along with his girlfriend Claudia Rutt.
