At the time of shooting Leonard Schwartz was 22, a law school student. He was married. His wife was a UT student as well. Schwartz was near the Tower because he was called into a dean’s office. He typically never went near the Tower. His wife would’ve been near the mall, but was sick that day and stayed home.

There’s a bullet hole in the mall that could have hit Schwartz.

He remembers seeing a couple walking just steps ahead of him shot to the ground. “Lovers quarrel” – was his first thought. He never imagined a mass shooting.

Schwartz suffers from survivor’s guilt.

He had never publically shared his story before this project.
