Ken Eickmann was a UT-Austin student in August of 1966. He was attending an ROTC Summer Camp in Oklahoma when news of the Tower shooting reached him.
“My family was here, my brother, sister, my mom, dad,” Eickmann says. “And I began to worry about them. How many people were hurt, where were they, were they hurt and I didn’t know and it was difficult to get information.”
Eickmann says that not knowing and that fear for people in another location impacted his life forever and especially impacted how he communicated with the families of troops while he was in the military.
