Hector Ruiz was originally from Mexico. He moved to Texas as a freshman in 1964.
The shooting happened between his sophomore and junior years while he was studying engineering.
Hector was living at the Stag Co-op, which was for students who couldn’t afford to live elsewhere. He did housework to pay for rent.
He said the shooting was like being trapped in a horrifying dream.
“It all seems like a dream while it’s happening. And you’re trying to figure out, is anyone else dreaming like I was?”
