Leland Ammons was in his first year of Law School at UT in August of 1966. He was a graduate of the UT Business School.

Ammons says he was standing next to APD officer Billy Speed when Speed was shot dead between the balustrades at the Jefferson Davis statue. He helped a group of people drag Officer Speed out of the view of the Tower.

Ammons gave an interview to reporter Neal Spelce right after the shooting.
