“I was actually in Rome at the time of the shooting.  My mother took me on a blitz trip of Europe that summer and it was in the International Daily Tribune with pictures and everything. There were two men from St. Louis on the trip, who teased me at breakfast about where I went to school. They knew that I had just graduated.

I felt sad and ashamed that our school had to endure this embarrassment and all the publicity that went with it.

The main outcome of the event as I remember is that we could no longer go up to the top of the Tower, which I had always enjoyed as a student.  The view was incredible.”
